| The mystical and romantic land of Wales dates back to ancient times. The Welsh have descended from many people including the Celts who were later followed by the Romans and the Saxons. Wales came into being as a country in 1536 with Henry VIII's Act of Union. Interestingly, the Tudor monarchs such as Henry VIII who played such an influential role in England's history had their humble beginnings in Wales. |

| The first Roman invasion took place across the River Dee. It was aimed at dividing the people of the highlands of Wales from the highlands of the north of what would later become England. |

Saxons |
