Traditional Scottish Festivals 1
Hogmanay, the celebration of bringing in the New Year, is not the only traditional festival in Scotland. Many national and local celebrations took place in the past and some survive to this day.
Traditional Scottish Festivals 2
A pagan fire festival which goes back to pre-Christian times - originating with Baal in Phoenicia. It was supposed to encourage the crops to grow. There has been a holiday at the start of May in many parts of Scotland for centuries.
Music Festivals
The Glasgow Jazz Festival is sponsored by The Royal Bank of Scotland and runs for approximately 9 days during the month of June.
The Poetry Festival
Held annually in the historic town of St Andrews, StAnza is the only regular festival in Scotland which is dedicated entirely to poetry.
St Andrew's Week Festival
The town of St Andrews hosts eight days celebrating Scotland’s culture and cuisine. There will be various concerts, exhibitions, dancing and theatre, and the Scott’s Porridge Oats Food and Drink ,Fair with a prize for the best bowl of porridge in Fife!
Other Festivals
It is the World Festival of Youth Arts, is also one of the highlights of Aberdeen's cultural calendar and is the major summer arts event in North East Scotland.
