OTTAWA (June 5 2010) - British Council Canada is pleased to announce an opportunity for a Canadian science journalist and a science journalism student to go to a climate change international workshop in Shanghai, China, in conjunction with the Shanghai Expo.
The British Council will pay for flights to and from Canada, accommodation and subsistence for winning applicants. The British Council in China will arrange the program, which includes a visit to the British pavilion in Shanghai and a trip to a nearby city to see examples of green urban planning. The workshop will include journalists and journalism students from several countries and senior British and Chinese scientists. It will take place the first week of September (final dates to be advised). Entries may be in English or French but the workshop will be in English. Successful applicants will be expected to write an article about the trip for our newsletter.
Deadline for applications: Friday, July 16, 2010
Application criteria:
•Covering letter with an explanation of how the applicant will use the opportunity.
•If representing a media outlet, a letter confirming that the applicant may go on this trip and any restrictions that may entail.
•Journalism students must provide proof of their studies and, preferably, a recommendation from a professor.
•Up to three examples of past articles or broadcasts on the subject of climate change or the environment.

CONCOURS OUVERT AUX JOURNALISTES SCIENTIFIQUES ET AUX ÉTUDIANTS EN JOURNALISME SCIENTIFIQUE POUR PARTICIPER À UN ATELIER SUR LES CHANGEMENTS CLIMATIQUES À SHANGHAI
OTTAWA (5 juin 2010) - British Council Canada a le plaisir d’annoncer la tenue d’un concours offrant la possibilité à un journaliste scientifique et à un étudiant en journalisme canadiens d’assister à un atelier international à Shanghai, en Chine, conjointement avec l’Exposition de Shanghai.
Le British Council assumera les frais de transport aérien à destination et en provenance du Canada ainsi que les frais d’hébergement et de subsistance des candidats retenus. Le British Council en Chine organisera le programme, qui comprend une visite au pavillon britannique à Shanghai et une excursion dans une ville avoisinante pour voir des exemples d’urbanisme vert. L’atelier, qui réunira des journalistes et des étudiants en journalisme de plusieurs pays ainsi que des scientifiques britanniques et chinois chevronnés, se tiendra durant la première semaine de septembre (les dates définitives restent à confirmer). Les candidatures peuvent être présentées en anglais ou en français, mais l’atelier se déroulera en anglais. Les candidats retenus devront rédiger un article sur leur voyage pour notre bulletin.

Critères d’admissibilité :
•Lettre de présentation qui explique comment le candidat tirera profit de sa participation à l’atelier.
•Si le candidat représente un média, lettre confirmant que le candidat est autorisé à faire ce voyage et indiquant toute restriction que cela pourrait occasionner.
•Les élèves en journalisme doivent fournir la preuve de leur statut d’étudiant et, de préférence, une recommandation d’un professeur.
•Jusqu’à trois exemples d’articles ou de reportages antérieurs sur les changements climatiques ou sur l’environnement.
