What are the selection criteria?
Competition for Chevening scholarships is intense, and in Canada only the top 1% of applicants are successful.We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate that they have more to offer than their peers and contemporaries, and have the potential and ambition to make a substantial, positive difference in their chosen fields. Evidence of leadership experience and potential is critical.

What types of courses can I study on a Chevening scholarship?
Chevening scholars must study in the UK for at least 3 months and are typically granted for Masters degree courses. It is highly unusual for the committee to approve an award for PhD studies.
What subjects can I study on a Chevening scholarship?
We are specifically looking for candidates who will be intending to pursue Postgraduate study in Law, International Relations, Political Science or Economics.
When is the application deadline?
The application deadline for the 2010/11 academic year is 4 December 2009. This applies to the application form to be submitted on line.
Where can I get an application form?
Note that all applicants must now submit their applications on line.
Please log in and complete the Chev1application form, creating your own log-in and password.
The system allows partial completion of an application so that you can return to complete the form if necessary. When all the pages of the form have been completed, submit your application. Note that from this point forward you will no longer be able to log in as your log in and password will have been deleted.
Where do I send the supporting materials?
We will request supporting documents only if you are selected for an interview.
Do I need to have guaranteed admissions at a UK university to apply?
No, however candidates are strongly advised to make a formal application for a university place direct to the institution of their choice as soon as possible. Confirmation by an applicant of his/her placement at a British university is considered an asset by the selection committee at any stage of the selection process.
What does the scholarship cover?
The awards will cover university tuition fees, which vary according to the institution, as well as a contribution towards living costs.
What is the timeframe for reviewing applications?
The process of reviewing the applications begins after 4 December. There are several selection rounds and candidates will be notified in writing as the committee progresses through the applications. All candidates should have received either a letter of rejection or an invitation for a telephone interview by the end of January. A final list of award winners is usually decided by the end of March.
Is there a citizenship requirement?
You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada to apply through the Canadian office. If you are a citizen of another country, please refer to the country page of the country you will be applying from for further details regarding specific criteria and eligibility, which vary from country to country.
