UK/CANADA COLLABORATIVE PROGRAMME
Promoting mutually beneficial collaborative initiatives between the UK and Canada

Please note that this programme is currently unavailable. Please check back soon for updates.

Our UK/Canada Collaborative programme aims to promote mutually beneficial collaborative initiatives between Britain and Canada, in order to strengthen the longstanding relationship between the two countries.

We are not a grant-giving body, but rather a facilitator, providing modest seed-corn funding to enable individuals and institutions to work together to develop collaborative programmes.

We are interested in applications for visits which lead to Academic Links, especially those that encourage the growth of formal academic links between universities in Britain and Canada. A link can cover student and staff exchanges, joint study or research programmes but preference will be given to links where student exchanges are included, although we cannot cover the exchanges themselves. Please note that we do not fund attendance or presentations at academic conferences. Partnerships with universities that include industry will not be ruled out, although the programme is aimed at encouraging collaboration between universities and publicly-funded institutions. PhD and Postdoctoral students cannot be considered under this scheme.

Payment terms

We review project proposals every six weeks. Contribution to costs may be paid in either sterling or Canadian dollars and are discretionary. Such assistance will normally be limited to a contribution towards international travel expenses. In making the grant, the British Council accepts no responsibility for the actual cost of the international fare, insurance or accommodation.

Reporting back

A report should be submitted within two months of the visit. The report can be brief but should include a description of the objectives and outcome of the visit. We would like feedback on the value of the trip and contacts established, as well as any future activity proposed, particularly regarding the development of academic links. Acknowledgment of British Council support should be made on all promotional material and publicity and copies of such material should be provided to the British Council. British Council logos can be supplied if requested.
