The Corporation
Barcode # DV1571
THE CORPORATION is a well-organised and deeply fascinating documentary about the growing prominence of large global businesses, and the way that their decisions are impacting the world. The film shows how corporations have ballooned in size and power since the industrial revolution, and explains the laws and loopholes that allow them to remain nearly unaccountable for their actions. If they break a law, they are willing to admit guilt and pay the fine, because the profits outweigh the penalties. Therefore, they continue to cause serious environmental problems by dumping waste into rivers and oceans and by depleting natural resources, resulting in irreversible damage to the earth which also poses a serious threat to human life. Beyond environmental issues, the film shows how corporations exploit underpaid labourers in third world countries, violate basic human rights, make deals with foreign countries that are known enemies of the US, and in some instances perpetuate fascist regimes.

Her loss was felt not only by the British people who loved her, but by the rest of the world. This sensitive and glowing portrait of Diana, Princess of Wales, shows the warm and human side to the world's most famous woman. Hers should have been a long and golden life filled with all the riches and acclaim that was hers when she married the most eligible bachelor - Charles, the Prince of Wales, heir to the British throne. We take a solemn look at the remarkable funeral of Diana at historic Westminster Abbey, including the unprecedented raising of the British flag to half-mast at Buckingham Palace. This exceptional tribute to the 'English Rose' is overshadowed only by the overwhelming beauty and warmth she unselfishly shared with us all. Her short presence here with us and her unparalleled achievements throughout the world will have an impact forever. Princess Diana will always remain the undisputed Queen of Hearts the world over.

Nil by mouth
Barcode # DV1647
Gary Old man took a break from acting to write and direct this unflinching family drama out of the kitchen-sink British school. Old man doesn't appear in the film, instead handing the heavy lifting to the remarkable Ray Winston (Sexy Beast, Cold Mountain) and Kathy Burke, who won a prize at the Cannes Film Festival for her work. The scummy drug trade of lower-class London is Old man’s turf, but he puts special focus on the miserable cycles of violence that fuel a family's struggle within this world. The results are not always easy to watch, but they are devastating (and the final sequence is chilling). Old man may be guilty of indulging his actors a bit, but it's forgivable, given the big, roaring performances.
