The Cambridge Young Learners English Tests have been specifically designed for children aged 6 to 12. Testing listening, reading, writing and speaking skills the exams focus on what children can do, not what they cannot. The tests challenge children to think, achieve and they reward that achievement. Children can’t fail the test but they are awarded between one and five shields depending on their performance.
There are three levels: Starters, Movers and Flyers. Each level consists of three sections - Listening, Reading and Writing and Speaking - and they take between 45 minutes and 70 minutes, depending on the level. A trained Cambridge oral examiner conducts the speaking test and then all the scripts are sent to Cambridge, UK for marking.
- Starters: 6 - 8 years old (Kindergarten and Std 1)
- Movers: 8 - 10 years old (Std 2 to 4)
- Flyers: 10 - 12 years old (Std 4 to 6)
Indivduals , schools or centres can register for the exams. Schools can register 8 weeks in advance of the test if they have at least 10 candidates.
