CAMBRIDGE TEACHING KNOWLEDGE TEST (TKT)

WHAT IS TKT?

The Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) is an internationally recognised test from Cambridge ESOL about teaching English to speakers of other languages. It aims to increase teachers' confidence and enhance job prospects by focusing on core teaching knowledge related to language, language use and the background to and practice of language teaching and learning.

WHO IS THE TKT COURSE FOR?

TKT is for teachers of English who require a strong foundation in the core areas of teaching knowledge in the English language classroom.

COURSE CONTENT

This 60-hour course runs over ten weeks in January, April, July and October. There are three modules:

1. Language and Language Teaching
2. Lesson planning and use of resources for language teaching
3. Managing the teaching and learning process

Our programme will help you to understand:

  • Different methodologies for teaching
  • The ‘language’ of teaching
  • Ways in which resources are used
  • Key aspects of lesson planning
  • Classroom management methods for different needs

  • Observe British Council teachers in their classrooms plus live video lessons
  • Take part in teaching practice: teaching lessons to young learners and adults at the British Council
  • Give and receive peer feedback after teaching practice
  • Practice answering the TKT test using past questions

HOW TO REGISTER  

To join a course complete and hand in a TKT course application form which can be picked up at the British Council. Applicants will be invited to attend an interview with the TKT course trainers.
