The British Council has successfully organised a number of Joint Annual Education Conferences in collaboration with Pyinnya Tazaung, Pyoe Pin and MEDG.
The series of conferences originated from JICA-led ‘Child Centred Approach’ conference in 2011, where the British Council sponsored presenters and showcased effective teaching demonstrations. In 2012, the British Council became the leading organiser and the theme chosen for the conference was ‘Enhancing teaching practices in Basic Education’.
The conference was held in November 2012 at Yankin Education College. There were 250 participants including 40 teacher trainers from 21 Education Colleges in the country and 5 from Yangon and Sagaing Institute of Education. The workshops and presentations conducted at the conference were tuned to the local context and strived to meet the needs of the grass root level teachers.
The presentations by the British Council informed the participants on how they can benefits from the British Council’s portfolio of activities and programmes, how to become active participants themselves and to familiarise the teachers with British Council’s services and activities. The British Council aims to turn the conference into an annual event.
In 2013, we will again lead on the organisation of the conference, with the support from Pyinnya Tazaung, the Department of Education Planning and Training, Pyoe Pin and MDEG. The conference will again be held at Yankin Education College and we are expecting to have 250 participants. The participants, as usual, will be from state schools, monastic sector, NGOs and INGOs, local education foundations and organisations.
