Burmese student shortlisted for International Student Award

A Burmese student who is studying at the University of Leicester has been selected as a runner-up of the British Council’s International Student Awards. Than Htut, who is studying for an MSc in Educational Leadership, has been in the UK since 2006.

The International Student Awards were launched in the UK by the British Council in 2002. The fifth annual awards ceremony took place in London on April 25, 2007.

The Awards are open to international students studying in the UK at universities, colleges of further education, English language institutions and independent schools. Eligible students are engaged in all levels of study from A-levels through to post-doctoral research.

The 2007 campaign attracted more than 2,000 competition entries from students representing 130 countries. Entries were received from institutions across all parts of the UK - and 12 regional winners were selected representing nine English regions and Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Another Burmese student, Yimon Aye from Oxford University, won the International Student of the Year award in 2003.
