The competition is part of OPENCities - an exciting project of the British Council which aims to explore all the positives new migrants can bring to a major city. ОPENCities focuses on city openness - what it means and how cities can capitalise on the many resources that a diverse population can bring. Partners of the project are Sofia, Belfast, Dublin, Vienna, Madrid, Bilbao, Cardiff, Duesseldorf, Poznan and Nitra.
British Council and BG RADIO are looking for the Soundtrack of Sofia - the music presenting our capital as a modern and open city. The competition offers musicians a wonderful chance for their music to be heard as part of an innovative worldwide project.
SOFIA - AN OPEN CITY
The theme "Sofia - an open city" is as broad as possible so that all participants can explore it in their own individual way. The competition was open to musicians and singers of all ages and styles - instrumental, solo, rock, rap, beatbox, dubstep, etc.
RESULTS
The idea inspired quite a few musicians and by 17 October, the deadline for submission, we had received 65 pieces. The BG Radio and British Council teams, with the support of a music consultant, listened very carefully to all of the proposals. A double check for compliance with the competition Rules & Regulations found 7 pieces significantly exceeding the maximum length of 4 minutes allowed and 1 piece which had been performed before the competition. These pieces were disqualified and therefore a total of 57 proposals competed in the next stage. We would like to remind you that when submitting their proposals all participants declared their agreement to and compliance with the competition Rules & Regulations.
THE FIRST PRIZE
The members of the competition jury awarded the first prize (4000 BGN voucher for professional audio equipment from MusicWorld.bg, the official online store of DYNACORD Bulgaria) to "Sofia Sound" by Plamen Zafirov, Hristiyan Georgiev, Veselin Yovchev, Aleksandar Poplilov.
THE AUDIENCE VOTE
As we are fully committed to maintaining maximum transparency of the competition, we decided to have all 57 pieces for the audience vote, instead of just the “top 10” shortlisted. All proposals could be listened to and voted for on this page of the BG Radio website. The audience vote deadline was extended until 1700 on 30 November 2010. The audience prize (laptop from Multirama) went to "Amazing" by Cool Reflections (Stela Atanasova and Velislav Uzunov).
