A competition under the auspices of the Council of Europe; British Council has launched the Living Together photography competition which will be open from September 2008 until March 2009. The theme of this competition is Intercultural Dialogue. Participants are invited to enter on the competition website 3 photographs which capture what migration means to them in response to the following briefs:
Anyone aged 13 – 35 resident in one of the following countries from Europe and neighbouring countries, is eligible to enter this competition: Albania, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, Israel, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. The aim of Living Together photography competition is to encourage a creative visual dialogue about the impact of migration on societies and the participation of minority communities in public life. Olympus UK are providing top of the range digital cameras for the Overall winners prizes. The Best Overall Photo - all ages will receive a Digital SLR camera. The photography competition is part of the Living Together project, a British Council initiative which aims to strengthen and promote social cohesion and active citizenship. The project is being delivered in over 15 countries, with the support of the Council of Europe, within the framework of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. The concept of ‘living together’ is pertinent in Europe, where increasingly complex and diverse societies have emerged as a result of migration. The project has a focus on the impact of new migrant communities on their home and receiving societies; and on the visibility of minority communities in public life.
