Library conditions
The Library Card is not transferable and is issued only once. On renewal the old card remains valid.
Customers with full membership may borrow a maximum of 14 Library items at any one time (3 books, 3 children's books, 3 DVDs, 3 music CDs and 2 periodicals)
Customers with book library membership may borrow a maximum of 8 Library items (3 books, 3 children's books and 2 periodicals).
The loan period for books is 3 weeks, for DVD, CD-music and periodical - 7 days.
Young readers and students below age 18 may only borrow DVDs appropriate to their age group (according to the video rating).
Books can be renewed up to 10 times or unless a request for the same title has been submitted by another customer. All other items (i.e. music CD, DVD and periodicals) can be renewed only once. You can renew in person, as well as online by: 1. sending us an e-mail to library.sofia@britishcouncil.bg with the number of your membership card and the titles of the items you wish to renew; or 2. submitting a filled web form at www.britishcouncil.org/bulgaria-learning-library-renewal-form.htm.
If your request has been successful, you will be informed about the renewal date within our working hours of the same day.
Only books can be requested/ reserved. A book request costs 0.50 lv per title. To make a reservation online, you need to send us an e-mail with the exact title and author’s name or submit a filled web form at www.britishcouncil.org/bulgaria-learning-library-renewal-form.htm.
Photocopies are charged at 0.10 lv per page. According to Copyright Law photocopying from books within the following limits: one article from a newspaper or magazine, nine pages or one chapter from a book.

Fines
The fine for overdue books and audio cassettes is 0.30 lv per item per day.
The fine for overdue CD or DVDs is 0.50 lv per item per day.
The fine for a damaged book is 5.00 lv.
The fine for lost card is 2.00 lv.
The fine for lost books is the equivalent of the £ price of the book in leva at the current rate of exchange.
