Word Express is working with younger generations of literary professionals and audiences in the region in order to connect countries and areas where political conflict has prevented cultural contact. A train journey will carry authors around the region who will create literature in response to their journey as well as hold workshops which will bring translations of selected literature to a wide audience. The project aims to develop closer links among literary organisations and publishing outlets (print and electronic / virtual) in the region of South-East Europe with a view to creating an informal network which will facilitate literary exchange and explore the potential of literature as a tool of intercultural dialogue. Participating countries: Turkey, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Israel, UK On 26 October five authors from Romania, Armenia, Turkey and Montenegro joined by four Bulgarian authors will have a literary reading at the Ciela Bookstore at the Sofia City Centre. The project brings together 12 international artists to test new ways of creatively reaching ‘electronic tribes’ through their work using digital technologies. It culminates with a festival, exhibition and public debate about the work in 2010. Participating countries: Romania, Bulgaria, UK Find out more about the project in English. A collaboration between Greenwich Dance Agency in South East London and dance artists and organisations in Bulgaria, Croatia and Greece, the project seeks to facilitate exchange of knowledge, experiences and artistic opportunities to create and perform work. A key aim is to act not only as a catalyst for the further development of dance in the different countries but to enable an ongoing dialogue to shape and inform practice for all four partners. Discussion on contemporary dance industry in Bulgaria, Greece, Croatia and the UK with the participation of representatives of artists of all Skills Exchange project partners and representatives of state and municipal institutions, NGOs, teachers from the New Bulgarian University, the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts and the Dance Secondary School, art critics and others. The International dance – music City to City Cabaret is part of the Skills Exchange project of the British Council Creative Collaborations programme. The participants in this dance – music performance come from Bulgaria, Greece, Croatia and the UK. Sofia will host the premiere. Later on the performance will visit Athens, Zagreb and London. Opening the Market is an artist support programme and online information exchange. Emerging artists, policy makers, experienced theatre professionals, and emerging and established producers from the three partner countries will investigate ways to open and develop the ‘market’ for people working in theatre nationally in the countries of partner organisations, across national borders within South East Europe, and internationally between South East Europe and the UK. This project is a multi-country training programme with country-based residencies promoting integrated dance across all involved countries. Mixed Ability Dance will develop a network for intercultural dialogue, using dance as a tool for promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities in society. The project aims to leave a legacy of trained professionals who can pass on their skills to other disability and dance professionals in their country, setting up satellite community dance groups at their base and sharing and reviewing peer learning experiences through the network across country borders. The training will get together integrated dance specilaists from Romania, Bulgaria and Albania to set up satellite community dance groups at their base and share and review peer learning experiences through the network across country borders. They will work on an integrated dance performance for people with and without disabilities to take place later on in 2010 in all participating countries. 22 - 27 February, Cluj, Romania
Following the multi-country training programme, the disability arts conference and the professional performance of StopGAP in Cluj, Romania the next event under the project is a residency to be held in Varna, Bulgaria in March 2010. StopGAP will train staff from Karin Dom Foundation in Varna, Bulgaria, to use dance within their award-winning programme of rehabilitation of disabled children and use it as a tool to integrate disabled children back in mainstream activities. 22-27 March 2010, Varna, Bulgaria

This project consists of an ideas exchange amongst academics, artists, teachers and children as they look to develop an urban planning module for use in the school curriculum. Partners in this project are aiming to develop a methodology and teaching materials on topics including architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture and art and design. Different forms of visual, performance and applied arts is being used in the teaching-learning process for better understanding of the built and natural environment between generations, professions and communities starting from summer 2009. Red Thread is a quarterly e-journal that will be a platform for artists and cultural operators from the Balkans, Middle East and the Caucasus. Silent Revival is a collaborative project between dancers, musicians, visual artists and filmmakers from the partner countries who will create a series of artworks that draw inspiration from early silent films. Research and development will begin with workshops in Sofia and Athens and culminate in the production of an international exhibition in 2010.
