UK has long traditions in educating international students. Education in an independent school is valued because of its high academic standards and results, small-sized classes and individual attention. Independent schools encourage personal and social responsibility and extracurricular activities. Young people learn to live in a group and perceive the school as a large family. They start long-lasting friendships at school, practice the sports they like, take advantage of the excellent arts facilities, join various clubs and societies and develop their responsibility and motivation. A stay in a boarding school is a real preparation for an independent student life abroad. More than two thirds of international students successfully continue their education at UK universities.
There are about 2,400 independent boarding schools in UK and about 7% of the total number of students in UK study in them. Secondary education can be obtained in:
- Independent schools (boarding schools) for students aged between 7 and 18 years.
- Independent colleges for students aged between 16 and 18.
There are different types of schools:
- Schools from age 2 - 5 to 16 - 18
- Kindergarten / Preparatory age 2 to 7
- Junior from age 7 to 11+ or 13
- Senior/middle from 11 to 18 or from 13 to18
