What is Erasmus? The European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students, or ERASMUS, is the European Commission's Higher Education Action most known for students, but which also applies to teachers and institutions. Originally aimed at increasing and facilitating mobility within the EU, the Erasmus programme has offers the opportunity to study abroad –for a period of 3 to 12 months– and is now more and more known as the provider of atypical life experiences: you will discover a new European country, go to a new university with new courses and live in a town of your choice where you will inevitably meet people coming from all around the world.
How can I go to the UK with Erasmus? If you are a student from a European country and your English is of a sufficiently high level (see IELTS exam) for you to attend and understand the courses you will be taught at your UK university, then contact your Erasmus-Exchange officer at your current university for the practical and administrative steps. You usually get a list of selected UK destinations and universities.
Is there any financial support? What is great about Erasmus is that you won’t have an extra registration fee for your UK courses and to cover extra costs involved in studying abroad, you will get an Erasmus grant. For more information about financial support and on how to apply for an Erasmus grant, contact your International Relations or Erasmus-Exchange Programme office.
