IELTS Refund and Transfer policy

Candidates are requested for practical reasons to notify their examination centre if they are unable to attend the examination.

  • Requests for refunds or to transfer must be made using the British Council Brussels Request for Refund or Test Date Transfer Form
  • The form must be sent to the British Council, IELTS Administrator, Rue du Trône 108, 1050 Brussels to reach them no later than 5 working days after the test date.
  • The form must be accompanied by a medical certificate or appropriate documentation or evidence and mention a bank account number.
  • Candidates will be advised within one week of receiving the form whether or not their application has been approved.

Refunds or transfers will only be considered five weeks or more before the test date:

  • Cancellation: you will be refunded the test fee minus a € 40 administrative fee
  • Transfer to another test date (only one change of test date is allowed): free of charge. The new date must be within three months of the original test date.

Exemptions

  • Serious illness or other serious grounds (death next of kin, accident, etc.)
  • If the application is approved British Council Brussels will either
    • Transfer the candidate to another session of their choice within the next three months free of charge depending on availability for the selected test date or
    • Refund the fee minus € 40 to cover administration charges.
