During 8 and 9 November the Science Day celebration will take place. The event aim to raise awareness amongst students, teachers, scientists and authorities, especially those from the Science and Technology and Education fields about the science development as a way to promote peace and development.
At the closure of the ceremony there will be an award for the winners of the contest Ciência pela Paz e pelo Desenvolvimento. The British Council will sponsor a trip to United Kingdom for the contest winners. This year the theme of the contest is life in polar regions (“Ciência e vida nas regiões polares: equilíbrio para o planeta”). The initiative aims to stimulate the interest in science amongst young students. The winners of each category (essay and drawing) will visit science institutions in the United Kingdom in the beginning of 2008.
During the event UNESCO’s partners will offer workshops, exhibitions and lectures of renowned scientists. The British Council will bring the exhibition NorthSouthEastWest which show images from different countries in the world showing the impacts of climate changes and the solutions that are being implemented to tackle this impact.
