In IELTS you are not reading for pleasure. You must identify what the question requires, find the information quickly and answer accurately. You will not have time to read every word of every passage slowly and carefully.
You should not attempt to do this, but ensure that you fully understand what the question is asking you-you may like to highlight key words for longer questions.
Write short notes.
Once you have analysed the task and know what you need to do, the next step is to write notes.
This is an essential part of organizing your writing and you should spend up to five minutes on this.
Choose relevant material that you need to complete the description. What you choose must be relevant to the question.
You are assessed on your ability to communicate fluently, clearly (i.e. with clear pronunciation) and accurately using appropriate grammar and vocabulary. It is important to say as much as you can as well to speak spontaneously. Be sure to elaborate as much as possible when asked questions, and once you have adequately answered the question do not be afraid to digress if it is a topic on which you are confident.
If the examiner thinks you are giving a prepared answer he or she will quickly change the question.
