Gender, Race/Ethnicity and Disability Seminar Brazil

The Equal Opportunities and Diversity Seminar had as its main objective to discuss the benefits of valuing and indeed the challenges of managing diversity in companies, and the role of the private and public sector in striving to embed equal opportunities as a way of seeking respect for differences and strengthening human capital. This will take place through the exchange of experiences between Brazil and the United Kingdom, countries that both have a long history of diversity, and will draw on case studies and the identification and sharing of good practices standards.

Purpose

The seminar took place  place in the context of strengthening attention globally to the development of a human rights culture, with particular focus on gender, race/ethnicity and disability, and the attainment of social inclusion, with heightened expectations of the role of employers in fostering and supporting this.

Audience

The seminar is of relevance to those managing human resources in a range of roles within the public and private sectors as well as policy makers, researchers and social commentators.

During the two days of event, 18 and 19 August 2008, around one hundred guests attended the event which happened at the BNDES in Rio de Janeiro and more then 50 people took part in the event via internet, watching the presentations and asking questions.
