British Government invites applications for the Chevening Scholarships Programme

PROGRAMME

The Chevening Programme is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and managed by the British Council throughout the world. In Brazil, the scheme is managed by the regional offices in Brasilia, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

The areas encompassed by the Chevening Scholarship are:

  1. Economic and Social Development;
  2. Combating International Crime;
  3. Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Environment;
  4. Finance and Banking, especially regulation and public finances;
  5. Government and Public Policy;
  6. Human Rights;
  7. Journalism;
  8. Trade and Industry, especially: aerospace technology, aquiculture, telecommunications, industrial design, cultural and creative industries, energy, environmental technology and civil engineering, mining and transport;
  9. Areas of Law related to the sectors mentioned above.

The fields of languages and the arts are excluded from the programme.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be Brazilian, work full time and live in Brazil, have a higher degree and at least two years' experience in their professional area. They must also have demonstrated potential to move to leadership positions, wish to establish links with the United Kingdom and speak English fluently (minimum IELTS requirement; 6.5 overall band). Applications are welcome from several sectors: private, public, trade unions, non-government organisations and others.

Scholarships are usually awarded for a formal full-time study programme lasting between three and twelve months, excluding internship or research. Courses must be directly related to the applicant’s present and future career.
