II Seminar on Cultural Heritage

The first session of the Seminar on Cultural Heritage, an event jointly organised by the British Council, the Belo Horizonte City Government Department of Culture (SMC/PBH) and the Minas Gerais State Institute for Historical and Artistic Heritage (IEPHA/MG), was held in May 2002.

International relations between the partners, with this years addition of Pontifíca Universidade Católica of Minas Gerais (PUC-Minas),  have now been established and the objectives are the acquisition of knowledge/means in contents of technical and scientific nature, so as to meet the urgent need on the part of Brazilian preservation institutions – here represented by the SMC/PBH and the IEPHA/MG – to qualify their agents, especially in relation to methodologies for analysis and intervention in preservation areas, studies of economical viability of new uses proposed, instruments of public administration in partnerships with the private sector, and government incentive instruments and grants.

With this event, we establish the need of supporting cultural relations between the UK and Brazil intensifying the partnership and the exchange of experiences between the States of Minas Gerais and Cornwall.

For that, the following themes are proposed. Such themes were thought out on a joint effort and listed and justified below. The possibility of future implementation of partnership projects is not to be disregarded.

Themes:

  • Cultural Marketing
  • Capacity Building in Context – Strategic Planning and Implementation
  • Industrial Heritage: planning for success
