Artists, curators, critics and students got together to discuss the current state of contemporary art.
The theme ‘Breaking Patterns: The Contemporary Thought in Art’ suggested that at the same time that we think about the contemporary models or patterns as finished, the contemporary art still exists under uncountable references from the art history but with no new models or patterns. The question is whether the art breaks paradigms.
The British artist Susan May, director of the Art Council Collection, the biggest collection of modern British art, also took part in the event invited by British Council.
The symposium was organized by Paço das Artes/Secretaria de Estado da Cultura and Forum Permanente in partnership with British Council, Goethe Institut and other institutions.
