PARTICIPANTS

Crash Worship - Kim Fielding Kim Fielding works in multimedia using performance, video, photography and installations. He conceives the different scenes in his work, from reality to fantasy, kitch to good taste. The result is a surreal scene which involves the spectator in its drama.

Paul Jeff (Klang & Boink) produces work based on details of other pieces, such as his “Veneer of Vermeer” series, based on the work of the great master Vermeer. The female characters in Jeff’s work appear in the same position as Vermeer’s. The Dutch artist is especially known for the detailed composition of his scenes, in which he gave emphasis to the role of women, as well as his typically Baroque traits, such as contrasts between light and dark and work with different textures.

Eve Dent presents an autobiographical work in which she uses her own body to appropriate physical space; niches, holes and empty spaces are the stage for her representation. Her body is not just adapted to the places, it is actually integrated into them. In the work, she investigates the relationship between the human being and architecture, which is seen as the human’s habitat. Just Bellow the surface - Eve Dent

Simon Mitchell presents vestiges of performances in his photographs, which are also autobiographical. In this case, the artist’s body plays an important role representing situations of extreme tension, in which he attempts to convey human anguish and barriers, particularly those caused by society’s pressures on man.

Duncan Sturrock’s final piece is the result of performances which take his childhood and family relations as the starting point for his perception of his current role in society.

Special participation: Grupo Intercultural Linha Imaginária

In 2003, tactileBOSCH held an international joint exhibition at which Tereza de Araújo introduced a new project, Fish Eyes, by Brazilian group Grupo Intercultural Linha Imaginária. It included pieces by 25 Brazilian artists shown in series of small photos, mapping out different visions and interventions in the Brazilian contemporary art scene. “Just as we had the chance to include Brazilian exhibitions in the Cardiff exhibition in 2003, it’s essential that we carry on this partnership by including them at Transmission Cardiff/São Paulo, to symbolise the cultural and artistic dialogue needed for there to be international cultural understanding,” the curator explains.

In this exhibition, the physical space designated for the artists from Grupo Linha Imaginária will be restricted to a single wall. They will present series of small photographs of artists who also use their body as part of their artistic language
