“Employability” was the theme of the lecture that happened on 8 November at the Library and Information Centre in the British Council Sao Paulo. In a pleasant, informal environment, Sandra Betti spoke about this new concept to around 50 participants.
Among other issues, Sandra discussed about self-development and the importance of a balanced life that doesn’t focus excessively on the professional area and that take into account other aspects that are many times more important than work itself.
The lecturer dedicated special attention to the importance of leisure and affectivity for the maintenance of psychological balance and emphasized the role of the physical, intellectual and spiritual aspects to obtain personal and professional success.
Sandra went all the way back to the seventies to share with the participants the huge difference between the two scenarios. Those days, the market was totally capable of absorbing the recently graduated professionals and didn’t expect any qualifications other than an undergraduate degree.
Nowadays, not only the scenario has changed radically and the level of demand of the market is a lot higher, but also the corporate values on which the search of professionals is based have totally changed. Old realities such as the so dreamt stability which is taken to it’s last consequences in the public sector and the passiveness when facing new challenges presented by the globalized and competitive world of the corporations, simply don’t exist anymore.
As good advice for the participants, Sandra revealed that currently the most valued characteristics by the market are not only the professional qualification, but also other aspects such as the constant technical and intellectual development, the energy spark that can be found in the eyes of some candidates, the capacity of working in teams and solving problems, leadership and creativity.
