Meeting Points in Brazilian Cinema
From script to critic reviews

Around 80 guests among ALUMNI members and cinema specialists came to our British Council Office in Recife in the night of last 8th May to attend the event which brought together the writer and screenwriter Paulo Lins, the producer and director Pedro Severien and the researcher and critic Alexandre Figueroa for a discussion about the recent film production in Brazil. Under their individual line of work, the seminar covered the entire cycle about film production: from conception (the script), production itself, exhibition and finally the critic´s review. Other themes discussed include the relation between brazilian contemporary filmmaking and other cinematographies around the world.

As the event was transmitted live through the internet, more than 90 people watched the event online. Those e-participants could also interact with the speakers making questions and comments in real time.

Paulo Lins is an established writer and screenwriter, author of the book “City of God”, among other works.
Alexandre Figueroa is a film critic and university professor with a PHD in Cinema Studies from the Paris III University, in France.
Pedro Severien is a producer and director of video documentaries and short films, with a MA from the University of Bristol, in the UK.
