Promotional opportunities

Here in Japan we provide a number of opportunities to promote your institution. Many of these opportunities are exclusively available to members of the Education UK Partnership. However, some are available to all eligible UK education providers.

Subject-specific booklets
We are producing booklets on UK study opportunities in the areas of environmental studies, TESOL, arts management and social entrepreneurship. These will be distributed to our established networks of practitioners in these areas. There are a range of promotional opportunities for UK institutions - find out more (PDF, 98 KB) and get in touch before 17 October!

UK study experience for Osaka high school students
Osaka prefecture are planning to send a group of 50 high school students to the UK for two weeks in summer 2012. The students will experience UK university life, which the Osaka government hopes will encourage them to go on to study in the UK at undergraduate level. This project is part of the Osaka Prefectural Internationalization Strategy, (PDF, 200 KB) and aims to nurture global personnel.
We are putting together a bid for this project, and would like to send the group to several UK universities for two or three days each. If you are interested in participating, we would love to hear from you!

Showcasing on Education UK websites and publications
Do you have any Japanese students who blog regularly? Our Education UK Online Ambassadors (site in Japanese only) help to encourage their peers to study in the UK, and to raise the profile of their institutions. We are currently recruting new Ambassadors for the 2011 - 12 academic year - the deadline is 14 October.

Have you considered showcasing an opportunity through the Education UK portfolio? Find out more about advertising on the Education UK website. As a Partnership member, you are entitled to pay a reduced rate.

In Japan, meanwhile, we produce a number of publications in which we provide advertising opportunities. Our Education UK Guidebook, produced in collaboration with a specialist Japanese study abroad publisher, is distributed to prospective students across Japan via their universities and schools, as well as via our events. Meanwhile, we are in the process of negotiating with a sponsor to produce a booklet aimed at high school students. To find out more, contact us.

Commissioned mailings
If you have material that you would like to promote to prospective students or institutions in Japan, contact us to discuss how we can help you. We can distribute material to our contacts either by post or by including information in our electronic newsletters. This service is only available to Education UK Japan partners. Promotional events
As well as our annual Education UK Exhibition, we host presentations and interview sessions on behalf of individual institutions Find out more.

Academic lectures
If an academic is visiting Japan, you could consider holding an academic lecture. These are designed to give participants a taster of UK university study while still in Japan. Although they are not primarily intended to promote a particular institution, they act as a method of raising your institution's profile.

In order to attract participants, the visiting lecturer needs to have a high profile, and we also need ample time to promote the lecture. Please get in touch with us at least a couple of months before the proposed visit, and we will advise on the suitability of the topic.

Education UK lounges
We are also looking for speakers for our Education UK Lounge series, which aims to convey what makes the UK unique through talks from speakers who are able to promote the UK based on their own experiences. These could include successful UK alumni, whether Japanese or British, and currently working in the UK or Japan. Recent speakers include a UK graduate who has set up a unique estate agency renting shared houses for young women, and a Japanese architect who worked on the new King's Cross terminal. Rather than focus on the specifics of study abroad as in our standard Education UK seminars we hope that these inspirational talks will attract people who are yet to consider studying abroad and that the speaker's talk will inspire the participants to think about studying in the UK for the first time.

Please let us know of any alumni or other speakers who you think might be suitable.

Short courses
We recently ran a pilot short course taught by a lecturer visiting Japan. The course was three days long (over two weekends), and was an introduction to Development Studies. It attracted sixteen participants, ranging from university students to working people and retired people. As the course was a success, we are looking for further proposals for such courses. Holding such a course allows you to raise your profile in a particular field, make connections and influence prospective students.

Some popular areas requested by participants on the pilot course are social sciences, culture, business, environmental studies and psychology, but we will consider proposals for any subject. We will provide the venue and carry out the publicity; you will need to pay the lecturer's travel and subsistence costs. We will do our best to schedule the course according to the lecturer's availability, but in order to attract working people, it needs to be held over a weekend. Again, we need at least a couple of months to set up and promote a course.
