You will need to understand spoken English in both everyday life and formal situations.
The Listening component assesses how well you can do this .
You will hear the information once only. This makes it particularly important that you prepare yourself properly before you listen.

In IELTS you are not reading for pleasure. You must identify what the question requires, find the information quickly and answer accurately. You will not have time to read every word of every passage slowly and carefully.
You should not attempt to do this.
Write short notes.
Once you have analysed the task and know what you need to do, the next step is to write notes.
This is an essential part of organizing your writing and you should spend up to five minutes on this.
Choose relevant material that you need to complete the description. What you choose must be relevant to the question.
You are assessed on your ability to communicate fluently, clearly (i.e. with clear pronunciation) and accurately using appropriate grammar and vocabulary. It is important to say as much as you can as well to speak spontaneously.
If the examiner thinks you are giving a prepared answer he or she will quickly change the question.
