The All Inclusive Sarajevo Project aims to establish a cooperation between professional designers and their partners with special needs who will through the inclusive process of the design work jointly create prototypes and collections of modern designers’ good quality products that will find their place at an open market..
All Inclusive Sarajevo Project is initiated by the Kulturanti – association of BiH designers. The project’s idea was accepted at the famous London Helen Hamlyn Centre for Inclusive Design of the Royal College of Art that holds similar workshops worldwide.
Ms Julia Cassim, an artist and expert adviser at the Helen Hamlyn Centre, presented the project to a wider audience of potential participants in Sarajevo in March 2009
Subsequently, the All Inclusive Sarajevo workshop was held in Sarajevo from 25 to 29 May 2009. Local partners and workshop participants were BiH companies employing persons with special needs: Librag; Association of Deaf and Hard of Hearing of Canton Sarajevo, Pismolik; the Self Reliance Centre; Visual Arts Academy, University of Sarajevo; Association of Blind of Canton Sarajevo; Association of Paraplegics and Persons Suffering from Infantile Paralysis of Canton Sarajevo and Kulturni Front from Belgrade. Thirty participants worked collaboratively in five groups, each consisting of two designers from Bosnia and Herzegovina and three counterparts from the participating companies. Each group was lead by a UK Designer trained in the area of inclusive design at the Helen Hamlyn Centre.
The prototypes of the new designs were presented by each of the Design Teams to the Media and the public at the Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo on 29 May 2009. There was considerable public interest in the this collaborative design approach with eighteen media stories in the newspapers and on national television. The focus on markets ensured that the prototypes are designed products with a brand identity for practical use; they included fashion accessories and designed household items.
The prototypes of products designed in Sarajevo will be exhibited in: Sarajevo in October, Zagreb in November and Belgrade in December 2009.
