Eloquent Science: A Practical Guide to Becoming a Better Writer, Speaker, and Atmospheric Scientist

This new communications guide is filled with tips for writing and reviewing scientific journal articles and creating and delivering scientific presentations. It is the ultimate reference for undergraduate and graduate students as well as researchers in the atmospheric sciences and intersecting disciplines.

Ingenious - call for proposals
Ingenious is a grants scheme that funds interesting and thought-provoking activities that help engineers to share their expertise and enthusiasm for engineering with the wider public. It aims to:Inspire creative public engagement with engineering projects, stimulate engineers to share their stories, passion and expertise with wider audiences, develop engineers’ communication skills and create debate. Funding from £3,000 to £30,000 is available for projects that meet the criteria of the two funding streams: 'Public Engagement Grants', 'Public Engagement Fellowships'. Closing date for applications: 19 November 2009.

This is a free training opportunity, including accomodation and travel.  Dialogue academy’ is all about showcasing and sharing the latest dialogue techniques and activities, with a view to embedding more dialogue opportunities in the day-to-day practice of science and discovery centres, science museums, festivals and related organisations. supported by the Wellcome Trust, led by Explore-At-Bristol, and developed in partnership with the UK Association for Science and Discovery Centres (ASDC) and four other science centres: Centre for Life, Newcastle; Glasgow Science Centre; The Living Rainforest and Thinktank, Birmingham.

The University of the West of England Masterclass in Science Communication

The Science Communication Unit at the University of the West of England has announced the next instalment of their annual Masterclass in Science Communication. The Masterclass is a five-day intensive course in Science Communication and draws on the existing expertise of the team that delivers UWE’s popular and practical Masters in Science Communication. It has been designed to provide professional development in the field of Science Communication. Application deadline: 21 December 2009.
