Climate Change

At the British Council, climate change is one of our three strategic priorities. We are working to strengthen networks and relationships among decision makers, influencers and future leaders worldwide to tackle climate change.

Climate Change Programme

Climate change is the biggest challenge currently facing mankind and its impact will affect us all. We know though that answers exist – or can be developed, if we are ready to change our behaviours and invest in technology and other solutions. Success also requires us to reach agreement and then implement a set of suitably robust international actions.

By using our extensive international networks and running large-scale projects, our Climate Change Programme helps to achieve understanding of the case for tackling climate change now, mobilise public pressure for progress on international agreements, and establish relationships and networks which lead to action.

Climate Generation- Challenge Europe
The Challenge Europe project aims to rise to the challenges that climate change represents for Europe and aspires to make a definite and lasting impact on the climate change debate. In each of the participating countries 15-20 young influencers from all walks of life are selected to become ‘Climate Advocates’.
 Long Horizons

Carbon Audit at the British Council
We conducted a carbon audit exercise in our premises in Paris in collaboration with Jean-Marc Jancovici to find out more about what we could do to reduce our carbon emissions.  It consequently altered our travel and procurement policies.
