If you are from a public university in Bangladesh and are interested in developing a link or partnership with a similar institution in the UK and/or other countries, you might be interested to know about the Higher Education Links Scheme. It is funded by the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID) through Development Partnerships in Higher Education (DelPHE) Programme and is intended to assist in the development of curriculum, teaching, research or management capacity and promote science and technology related knowledge and skills.
A HE Link involves collaboration between at least two higher education institutions (one in UK and the other overseas) which ultimately works towards reducing poverty and promoting sustainable development in Bangladesh and other overseas countries. Links operate in a wide range of disciplines including education, health, environment and human rights. The present British Council funded and/or managed HEL schemes are: : The DelPHE programme is funded by the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID) for partnerships between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) working on collaborative activity linked to development goals. The overall goal of DelPHE is to enable HEIs to act as catalysts for poverty reduction and sustainable development by building and strengthening the capacity of HEIs to contribute towards the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and promote science and technology related knowledge and skills. This links scheme started in June 2006 and will run by phases until March 2013.

: The project is funded by the British Council for significantly strengthening the academic relationship with the UK in priority CSA countries especially in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Afghanistan, which ensures continuing and growing UK-CSA collaboration in higher education in the years ahead. More specially, the partnership aims to revitalise and upgrade research and teaching skills in key national HEIs; strengthen leadership at institutional and national levels to enable leaders in higher education to further their country’s progression towards international standards and stimulate and nurture young academic talent in the UK and CSA through exciting and relevant research opportunities and international peer networking. It’s a 4-year project started in August 2007 and will run until March 2011.
