BP and the British Council are extending the application period for a special training programme for journalists. The training is organised within BP’s new project called “BP – British Council Business Journalism Project” and will be implemented by the British Council.
The project is aimed at helping the national media (broadcast, print and online media) strengthen their professional competencies and skills through a specifically designed comprehensive training programme which will address participants’ English language and journalistic skills.
The training will be held in Baku from April 2007 till February 2008. 16 participants will be selected to take part in the training.
The programme will focus on enhancing the following journalistic competencies and skills:

The training will be based on the following themes:

In addition, the programme offers an advanced English language training course tailored to the needs of the selected audience.
Eligible participants must:
- be practising journalists specialising in business, economics, banking, tax, etc.;
- be working for national broadcast, print or electronic periodical media;
- have minimum 2 years of work experience in analysing and reporting business and economics;
- have good command of English (equivalent of IELTS 6.0 or above);
- be available for the above-mentioned training courses for an extended period of time, including:
a)media training - 2 training days per month for a 10-month period b)5-day study visit to UK c)English language training – 4 modules x 40 hours (timetable to be agreed)

Those who have already applied for this programme do not need to reapply.
Suitable candidates will be called for an interview and for a test of their English language ability.
