ROBOTICS MISSION
Our innovative project connecting local and UK schools

Our Robotics Mission project introduces a complex approach to an education process that integrates the subjects of mathematics, foreign languages, science and design technology through the use of LEGO robots.

From October 2004 till March 2005 four teams: “MacroRobotics”, “Robosoft”, “Sunshine” and “Fireballs” were working on “Mars Mission” tasks. They were also conducting research on Mars and space in general. For easy and effective communication between team members in the UK and Azerbaijan, the teams were using our online forum.

The First National Tournament
The final stage of the project was the First National Robotics Tournament on 12 March 2005 at Qafqaz Private Gymnasium. The tournament started with a team presentation about Mars. Each team had five minutes to give their presentations to the panel of judges. The judges counted the research presentation based on quality research, innovative solutions, and creative presentation which best reflected in-depth understanding of the various scientific disciplines.

Following by the research presentation each team started their performances competing against one of the other teams having 2½ minutes to score as many points as they could. The final was between the two highest scoring teams: “Fireballs” from Lankaran and “Robosoft” from Sumgayit. The team from Sumgayit won the tournament.

Within the project Mike Grocott, teacher from Callington Community College, organized a master class on physics and space science for about 100 Azeri school students and teachers.

The UK visit
Finally “Robosoft” visited the Callington Community College from 24-26 April 2005 to meet their British peers and the Space Centre at the College. During their visit the UK and Azeri teams worked on “No Limits” robotics challenge and had a very interesting master class on stars and galaxies.

The last two days they devoted to visiting the British Science Museum in London. At the Science Museum the Azeri students experienced the major scientific advances of the past 300 years and explored the galleries with the world's finest collections in science history, technology and medicine. The students had the opportunity to visit the IMAX 3D film theatre at the museum.
