Road Competition

From October to December 2004 we brought together five countries from Europe - Hungary, Romania, Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan in a writing and photo competition called Road.
The competition aimed to collect the best pieces of writing from these countries to produce a web page displaying the writing in a specially designed quilt pattern of photos and text.

The title of the competition was: "Road"

It might be the road you live on, a road that brings you happiness, the road your life has taken so far, the roads that lie ahead of you in life, the road you wish you had taken but didn't or maybe to you it means something completely different. All views were welcome and participants were encouraged to send their own personal interpretation in no more than 120 words and/or three photos for the website. The subject of the photo had to be ‘ROAD’ but it could be anything from your own road, busy with people and traffic to a quiet mountain track at sunset. We were looking for a range of images that portrayed the variety and beauty across the five countries.

Congratulations to the winners in the writing competition:
Nata Qasimova, Nisa Hajiyeva, Aynura Alakbarova, Farid Aslanov, Elina Kasumova, Jeyla Salmanova, Vugar Guliyev, Farida Mammedbeily and Afsana Latifova.

They won the chance to attend Creative Writing Workshops with the British writer Geoff Dyer who was visiting Baku in March. In the writing section all the winners and 30 runners-up received a book to reward the high standard of their pieces.

Congratulations to the winners in the photo competition:
Fakhriyya Mammedova, Igrar Huseynov, Mehti Mamedov, Orkhan Aslanov, Rena Effendi, Sitara Ibrahimova, Ulker Huseynova, Dena B, Huseyn Huseynov and Rafiq Gambarov.
