Work experience/internships are not as usual or widespread in the UK as in other countries. Having some prior experience in the relevant field is normally desired, if not required. Some branches such as IT have more internships/work experience to offer than others.

Generally speaking, you should apply well in advance. Advisable are six to twelve months beforehand. There are also a number of organisations that organise internships/work experience for students. Please also consult our web page on work experience for more information.
