What is IELTS?

IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It is an internationally accredited English language proficiency test. If you intend to take up a job or a course of study, in Austria or abroad – wherever English language skills are required, IELTS is the test of your choice.

Three highly reputable education institutions are working together to administer the test: the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.

				INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION
				More than 6.000 educational institutions, government agencies and professional organisations in 120 countries recognize IELTS results as a valid language proficiency test – more than 1.700 just in the US. This makes IELTS one of the most universally recognized English language tests in the world.
				FOCUSED ON PRACTICAL NEEDS
				IELTS tests English as it is used in work, study and everyday life. This is done by assessing all four areas of language proficiency: listening, reading, writing and speaking. More about the test.
				FAIR TEST CONDITIONS
				IELTS takes great care to assess language skills as fairly and true to the real world as possible. Because of this, IELTS is the only internationally accredited English language test where active speaking skills are not assessed via the computer, but in a face-to-face interview.
				FREE ONLINE PREPARATION
				The new "Road to IELTS" offers a unique service to prepare for the IELTS test. 30 hours of free online preparation materials for every candidate. More information about "Road to IELTS".
				FAST RESULTS
				Many IELTS candidates need their test results to apply for jobs or Higher Education courses. We therefore guarantee the fastest possible turnaround time for IELTS results and make results available after 13 days. Just go to the IELTS Online Results Website and follow the instructions. Your IELTS test report form will also be sent to you by post on the 13th day after the exam.
				REGULAR TEST DATES
				The British Council offers monthly test dates in Vienna and twice a year in Graz – here you can find our test dates.
				NO ADDITIONAL COSTS
				The test fee of 190.00 Eur also includes the dispatch of your test results to up to five institutions of your choice.
