BIG IDEA: BRITISH FILM INSPIRES ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE

‘The Age Of Stupid' is a new UK cinema documentary described by international media and politicians alike as 'essential viewing to anyone who cares about the survival of our planet'. The British Council and British High Commission will hold an exclusive film screening of this thought-provoking film by Oscar winning producer/director Franny Armstrong, starring Pete Postlethwaite. BIG IDEA: CREATING SUSTAINABILITY LEADERS

Melbourne based Larissa Brown (pictured with Sir Nick Stern) founded the Centre for Sustainability Leadership (CSL) in 2005, launching an eight-month fellowship for top emerging sustainability leaders that includes weekly workshops, creating innovative sustainability projects, retreats and mentorships. With the British Council’s support CSL is working on an online course which uses streamed, video-based lectures with UK and global experts and podcasts to reach young people around the world.  Read more

BIG IDEA: CHANGING LIVES THROUGH RECYCLING  

Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, British Council Climate Champion Mita Sirait has developed an innovative programme that turns trash into treasure. By showing marginalised communities how waste can be collected, cleaned and ‘recycled’ into new goods that can be sold, such as handbags, Mita has helped them create new sources of income.
