		What does British Council do in the arts and creative industries?

We support some of the best of contemporary UK artists to travel to Australia and give performances or collaborate with Australian artists. We run arts programmes in support of our business objectives in Australia. As well as high profile performances, screenings and exhibitions, we support workshops, seminars and online events. We work in partnership with a range of Australian institutions, venues and festivals.

		How can I approach the British Council to promote my work or fund a specific project?

We are not a funding body in the traditional sense or have traditional funding opportunities for artists. We develop our work collaboratively with partners and make decisions on work on a project-by-project basis.

We are interested in:

Work which is new to Australia and which showcases the very best of contemporary UK creativity and innovation.
Work reaching a young Australian audience (aged 18 - 35).
Work with the potential to reach diverse audiences

		I curate a gallery space or art centre in Australia and am interested in presenting a visual artist from the UK. Can I apply to the British Council's Grants-to-Artists programme?

Yes. The Grants to Artists Scheme, is our one grant scheme specifically for visual artists.

It’s designed to help promote UK art by assisting professional UK artists who are resident in the UK to exhibit overseas in public or commercial spaces. The scheme is administered with guidance from members of a subcommittee from the Visual Arts Advisory Committee and British Council Directorates overseas.

The artist or the hosting gallery, museum or art space may apply.

We work to promote the UK in Australia, this means we generally bring UK artists to Australia.

		We would like to bring out a UK performance group to tour schools in Australia. Can you help with production expenses?

	In Australia our focus is on targeting an 18 - 35 yr old audience, sowe generally do not work with projects which are targeted primarily at a schools audience.
