Royal Shakespeare Company in Russia

After an absence of 45 years the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) returned to Moscow with its pan African production of Julius Caesar presented 14 November 2012 at the Moscow Art Theatre by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, Chekhov International Theatre Festival with the support of the British Council.

Julius Caesar had its world premiere in the UK as part of the World Shakespeare Festival in 2012 before it went on an acclaimed national tour of the UK. It was also televised for the BBC by Illuminations as part of their Shakespeare Unlocked season for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

One of Shakespeare’s greatest political thrillers, the production finds dark contemporary echoes in modern Africa with a company which includes some of the best black actors working in the UK today. The cast and creative team remain the same with Paterson Joseph as Brutus, Cyril Nri as Cassius, Ray Fearon as Mark Antony, Adjoa Andoh as Portia and Jeffery Kissoon in the title role.
