Aldeburgh World Orchestra
In 2011, 600 musicians from 50 different countries auditioned for 120 places to be part of Aldeburgh World Orchestra - a project led by Aldeburgh Music. The young musicians applied to be part of this unique ensemble by uploading a recording of their audition performance to YouTube rather than auditioning live.
The British Council supported five of these young musicians and supported them in this unique opportunity. One of these young talents, Marcellino Safwat, was recommended by the British Council in Egypt to take part in the orchestra and successfully auditioned via YouTube. This film shows his part in this ambitious and inspiring project and how the Aldeburgh World Orchestra celebrated international talent and created opportunities for young people that they would not have had otherwise.
