Our Partners
Who we work with in the UK

The British Council has formal written agreements (MOUs) with BBC Worldservice, Arts Council Wales (partnership agreement), Arts Council England (under revision), and Arts Council Northern Ireland.

We also have a number of project-specific partnerships with various organisations. Here are some examples of our UK-based partners, listed by art form:

Literature

Hay Festival: We work with the famous Hay Literature Festival. Based in the UK, Hay is a partner working on Literature festivals in Cartagena, Colombia; Segovia and the Alhambra in Grenada, Spain.

Poems on the Underground: A scheme which displays poems on extensively throughout the London underground network. We also send copies to British Council offices.

Edinburgh International Book Festival: A partner for the biennial Bookcase Showcase held by Literature Department  with British Council Scotland.

Drama and Dance

South East Dance: We are working with South East Dance to co-produce Forward Motion, a brand new collection of outstanding British screen dance works with DVDs and resources available for global screenings and events.

Contact Theatre: From 2003 to 2008 we have partnered Contact Theatre on Contacting the World, a pioneering international theatre exchange project for young people.

Royal Court Theatre: We have partnered the Royal Court in international projects developing new writing for theatre, including the annual International Residency for Emerging Playwrights.

Design and Architecture

Helen Hamlyn Centre, Royal College of Art: We have partnered with them on the 48 Hour Design Challenge.

British Fashion Council: We have partnered with them on the International Young Fashion Entrepreneur Award, given out at London Fashion Week, which is run by the BFC.

London Festival of Architecture: We curated and organised the Embassies Project in association with the London Festival of Architecture.

Film

UK Film Council: We work with UKFC on the British In Berlin Stand at the Berlinale European Film Market, British stand in the Short Film Market at Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, and on the UK Film Centre in the International Village at Cannes Film Festival

Scenario Films: We work with them on BABYLON, a film development project for ethnic minority filmmakers in Europe.

National Film and Television School: We have run projects at various festivals in conjunction with the NFTS.

Visual Arts

The Tate: We have worked with the Tate on 'the Lure of the East', as well as the JMW Turner exhibition in Russia.

The Whitechapel: We have worked with this gallery on the New Whitechapel Collection exhibitions.

Thomas Dane Gallery: We have partnered with Thomas Dane Gallery for the Venice Biennale in 2009.

Creative Economy

London Book Fair: We work with the London Book Fair on the International Young Publishing Entrepreneur (IYPE) award.

100% Design: We work with 100% Design on the International Young Design Entrepreneur (IYDE) award.

London Film Festival: We work with the LFF on the International Young Screen Entrepreneur (IYSE) award.

Music

BBC Symphony Orchestra: We have worked with the BBC Symphony Orchestra on the Beautiful names project.

London Sinfonietta; Gallery Pangolin; Kings Place: We work with these partners on the Rock Music Rock Art project.

London Jazz Festival: We work with the London Jazz Festival on the British Music showcase.
