Art, Architecture and Design funding

The British Council is a cultural relations organisation and our work aims to build engagement and trust for the UK through the exchange of knowledge and ideas between people worldwide. Consequently, the British Council only offers support to arts and creative economy work that is likely to contribute to the development of cultural relations between the UK and the rest of the world.

The Visual Arts department administers the Grant to Artists scheme, which provides support for visual artists who are exhibiting in a gallery overseas. We can only help if you are a UK based professional artist who needs funding to transport work to an exhibition overseas. To find out if you are eligible and how to apply please look at our Grants to Artists page.

We do not have any funds available for exhibitions or projects that taking place in the UK -  you should contact your appropriate UK Arts Council for advice and support.

If you want more general information on funding across British Council Arts Group please see our Funding FAQs page. Unfortunately we are not able to advise on other external means of arts funding.
