Following a visit by Arab artists and theatre professionals to the British Council’s Edinburgh Showcase, Protein Dance toured their award-winning production LOL (lots of love) in Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco and Palestine earlier this year.
Protein Dance was recently announced as the Winner of Best Independent Company in the National Dance Awards 2011 and the company has also been nominated for three further awards including Outstanding Achievement in Dance in the UK Theatre Awards 2011.
LOL (lots of love) looks at the subject of human connection in the online world. Talking and dancing at speed, six dancers stylishly nail the language of life online, exposing how the internet is transforming human relationships. Choreographed by Luca Silvestrini with video animation by Rachel Davies and original music by Andy Pink, LOL's razor sharp commentary on how we are re-wiring romance is underpinned by provocative humour and tremendous physical and verbal wit.
The tour included performances of LOL (lots of love), post-show discussions and talks inspired by the content and artistic process of the work, as well as workshops in collaboration with theatre professionals and artists from the Middle East and North Africa region.

Alma Salem, British Council Regional Arts Programme Manager for Middle East and North Africa said: 'Protein’s tour to the region is supported by the Arab artists and theatre professionals who attended the British Council’s Edinburgh Showcase in August 2011.'
She added, 'Besides its thrilling contemporary dimension incorporating new technologies and dance techniques on stage, this choice of performance responds to the region’s strong interest on issues around blogging and its impact on relationships and social change.'
