Our International Short Film Promotion Scheme highlights new work from the UK, by forming partnerships with festivals worldwide. It enables the UK’s vast talent pool to find its place in the international film arena and encourages long term creative relationships. (*suspended temporarily)
The British Council creates opportunities for international collaboration in literature and publishing at the London Book Fair by showcasing the cultural context of other countries including Russia in 2011. In 2012, the China Market Focus cultural programme will showcase the best in contemporary Chinese writing and publishing, with Chinese writers taking part in events across the UK.
The world-renowned British Council Collection includes over 8,500 works covering all aspects of British art and design from the last two centuries. It is frequently used to populate our exhibitions around the world, providing inspiration to an international audience.
A series of unique guides to British films showing at various international festivals. These downloadable documents contain production and contact information, as well as filmmaker-penned synopses of British films. The full online catalogue directory, including British films made since 1998, is also available at www.britishcouncil.org/film.

This programme encourages collaborative working between artists and arts organisations in the UK and India, by providing assistance with opportunities for creative networking, development support, showcasing collaborations and advice and brokerage.
The programme connects people who work in and inform the creative and cultural industries around the world with those in the UK. It provides a global support network for creative entrepreneurs, cultural leaders and policy makers and encourages the international exchange of ideas and collaboration. Image: © Frank Noon
A programme designed to develop the skills of a network of cultural leaders. Participants are selected through an open application process and will acquire leadership skills through training, work placements, mentoring and the exchanging of ideas and knowledge with their peers.
The culmination of the Cultural Olympiad will be the London 2012 Festival, bringing leading artists from all over the world together in the UK's biggest ever festival - a chance for everyone to celebrate London 2012 through dance, music, theatre, the visual arts, film and digital innovation, and leave a lasting legacy for the arts in the UK. Our biennial Showcase returned in August 2011 during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with a thematic focus on New Performances for New Audiences. The Showcase provides an opportunity for international programmers, venue and festival directors to experience the most outstanding small and middle-scale touring productions from the UK.
We will be continuing our partnership with Edinburgh International Book Festival in 2012. Watch this space for more information.
A collection of outstanding British screen dance works, curated by experts into three programmes. Co-produced with South East Dance, Forward Motion creates a moving snapshot of Britain’s prolific screen dance industry and features over 20 historic, seminal and groundbreaking films.

Since 1938 the British Council has been responsible for the British Pavilion in Venice, showing artists from the UK at the longest-running, most prestigious international art biennial in the world; the Venice Biennale of Art. From 1991 the British Pavilion has also been home to architecture exhibitions in the alternate years to the Art Biennale.
Taking place in 2012 in cities across China, UK Now presents an exciting programme of contemporary and classical artistic work from a range of art forms. It is the largest festival of its kind with a range of headline events from the UK's leading companies and institutions.
