Our International Short Film Promotion Scheme highlights new work from the UK, by forming partnerships with festivals worldwide. It enables the UK’s vast talent pool to find its place in the international film arena and encourages long term creative relationships. (*suspended temporarily)

The world-renowned British Council Collection includes over 8,500 works covering all aspects of British art and design from the last two centuries. It is frequently used to populate our exhibitions around the world, providing inspiration to an international audience.
A unique and extensive guide to British films, this downloadable document contains helpful production and contact information, as well as filmmaker-penned synopses of British films released in 2011. The full online catalogue directory, including British films made since 1998, is also available at www.britishcouncil.org/film.

This initiative aims to build lasting relationships and exciting collaborations between cultural organisations in the UK and China. It offers support, information, advice, networking opportunities and development grants to cultural organisations and artists in both countries.
This programme encourages collaborative working between artists and arts organisations in the UK and India, by providing assistance with opportunities for creative networking, development support, showcasing collaborations and advice and brokerage.
The programme connects people who work in and inform the creative and cultural industries around the world with those in the UK. A programme designed to develop the skills of a network of cultural leaders. Participants are selected through an open application process and will acquire leadership skills through training, work placements, mentoring and the exchanging of ideas and knowledge with their peers.
The British Council is supporting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. As part of this we are working in partnership on an international programme for the Unlimited disability arts project that will enable disabled and Deaf artists from around the world to collaborate to produce work for the London 2012 Olympic celebrations. Our biennial Showcase returned in August 2011 during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with a thematic focus on New Performances for New Audiences. The Showcase provides an opportunity for international programmers, venue and festival directors to experience the most outstanding small and middle-scale touring productions from the UK.
In partnership with Edinburgh International Book Festival, this biennale event welcomes international delegates who get the opportunity to learn from UK literary experts, to contribute to debates and discover new UK literature.
A collection of outstanding British screen dance works, curated by experts into three programmes. Co-produced with South East Dance, Forward Motion creates a moving snapshot of Britain’s prolific screen dance industry and features over 20 historic, seminal and groundbreaking films.
The Showcase is an opportunity for embassies and cultural institutes to come together and show the innovative and thought-provoking architectural projects emerging from their countries. Nearly 40 countries were involved in the Showcase in 2010, hosting a range of events. Image: © Enrique Guzman

Since 1938 the British Council has been responsible for the British Pavilion in Venice, showing artists from the UK at the longest-running, most prestigious international art biennial in the world; the Venice Biennale of Art. From 1991 the British Pavilion has also been home to architecture exhibitions in the alternate years to the Art Biennale.
