Subsistence Rates
We’re active all over the world. If you’re planning a budget for an overseas drama or dance tour and want current up to date information on suitable overseas subsistence and per diem rates then you’ve come to the right place. Please note that these rates are not compulsory, but are recommended rates based on our continuing experience and activities. If you choose to follow this advice, we must not, under any circumstances, be named in a legal agreement between other parties.

We are aware of the difficulties that exist in securing reliable budgetary information and are keen to continue to provide helpful advice to the performing arts constituency. Below are a selective range of meal allowances (as opposed to twenty-four hour subsistence) as they are now used for the British Council’s own staff when travelling abroad, which we hope will prove useful in the preparation of budgets for overseas touring.

For travel advice, information on visas, freight, tax and more see our advice for artists taking work overseas and check out the relevant country details.

For more comprehensive information you can purchase the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's Worldwide Subsistence Booklet from the Travel Accounts & Claims Unit
T +44 01908 515572, F +44 1908 515360.

We recommend that you also check the Foreign Office’s constantly updated website for international travel advice before you go.
