Red Tape

Thinking of taking a project overseas?  These links tell you the key places to go for advice, by country. choose a continent below. If you are an artist from overseas interested in bringing work to the UK, please contact Visiting Arts.

We regret that if there is not a link to a country, then we have no further information available. We recommend you try the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website instead.

Western and Southern Europe

Red tape is at its minimum for UK nationals touring within Europe, and many arrangements are the same for all EU countries.

  • Visas, registration, work permits and carnets are not normally required.
  • For health purposes, It is advisable to obtain an E111 (or E128) certificate as it entitles you to state emergency treatment in all European Community countries, though you may still have to pay some charges. It is not a substitute for medical travel insurance which gives far wider cover.

A recommended website is the EU-run Citizens Signpost Service, which has information for EU citizens about living, working and studying in another EU country.
