British Council Ethiopia
Visas Visitors need to have an entry visa from the Ethiopian Embassy. If there is no Ethiopian Embassy in their country, it is possible to get an entry visa as soon as you arrive in Addis Ababa Airport. However, you must pre-arrange this before leaving. The best way of doing this is to send details of your passport and attach a schedule of your visit to your Ethiopian host so they can process your entry visa on your behalf.
Forms You must fill in forms for immigration purposes and also if you are seeking a resident's permit to stay in the country. These can be obtained from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the main Immigration Department.
Work permits Please refer to the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. If you want to work in Ethiopia, you should have a work permit from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, which will only be issued on production of a letter of recommendation from the appropriate authority or organization. After getting the work permit it must be registered in the Immigration Main Department in order to get a new ID and Resident' s permit including an exit and re-entry visa. This will incur a service charge.
Freight You can use Air or Sea Freight to transport your personal effects or goods. For clearing and revenue please be aware that certain goods that needs pre import and export permission from the appropriate Authority. This must be obtained before sending the goods, and will incur a fee. |
