Visas
You must have a tourist visa issued by the Cameroon High Commission in London and a return ticket. Letters of invitation must be prepared by a host body in Cameroon and sent to visitors in order to facilitate issuing a visa. It can take more than three weeks to obtain and currently costs £35. Note that visas are valid for three months from the date of issue, so if your journey is delayed, make sure the visa is not invalid.

Forms
You must have a valid yellow fever certificate for entry. Note that it only becomes valid two weeks after the vaccination.

Health
Cholera, typhoid, dysentery and malaria are endemic. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is obligatory, while up-to-date vaccinations for typhoid, polio and tetanus are strongly recommended. You should also consider vaccination against hepatitis and meningitis.

Tax
Confirm your onward or return flight as soon as possible after arrival. There is a departure tax of CFA 10,000, unless you hold a diplomatic passport. You will need to obtain a permit to leave and re-enter the country if you travel outside Cameroon during your stay.

Residence Permits/Drivers Licences
You must carry your passport or ID with you at all times. The police can and do stop you and ask for it, particularly when leaving the city. If time permits it is advisable to have a copy made of your passport which can be certified by the Embassy and deposit your passport in the office. You need to carry your ‘Carte de Sejour’  (residence permit)– or receipt of application (lasts for three months until your permit comes through).

When driving you must be in possession of a Cameroonian or International Driving Licence, the vehicle registration document  (“Carte Grise”) and a valid insurance certificate issued in Cameroon. There are large numbers of check-points, which increase at the end of the month when salaries are due to be paid.
