Liz Lea specialises in the movement path between contemporary and classical Indian and dance and martial arts, creating innovative, exciting work that retains the purity of the traditional forms. She is mindful of the cultural issues surrounding her work and aims to explore them fully. Her work is informed, challenging and diverse.

The Blue Tour A triple bill of solos: Bluebird, The Incense and Quicksliver.

Bluebird Floating in sea of blue, this bird rises to an occasion fit for a queen. From baroque to breakdown, luxury to depravity, she will captivate and dominate. (25 mins, choreographed and performed by Liz Lea)

The Incense Choreographed by Ruth St Denis in 1906 and re-interpreted by Liz Lea. ‘Up and up her arms flowed, boneless, mesmeric, the disembodied essence of smoke… it explored the evocative meaning of line.’ Suzanne Shelton (5 mins, preceded by a 10-minute introductory talk)

Quicksliver Slick, stark and fast; Bharata Natyam, Kathak and contemporary dance choreographed and performed by Liz Lea. (10–15 mins)

FUTURE PRODUCTION
A commission from the Royal Opera House to create a duet with film based around Ovid’s Metamorpheses to premiere in May 2007.

WRAP-AROUND ACTIVITY
Practical workshops with cross-generational groups and working with video. Talks/discussions on historical dance and it’s place in contemporary society.
